PodSafe Audio!

My absolute favorite moment in editing is when you plug in a piece of music and all of a sudden it does exactly what you wanted it to. It brings out the drama, the comedy, the nostalgia– whatever you want your audience to feel.
Which is why I love the wealth of new and great music that we’ve discovered while bringing you the bliggity-blog every week. Most of the music that we have used has been from PodSafe Audio. There are literally hundreds of artists who are putting their music out there to be downloaded and used in various projects. And they are making GOOD music. Almost 90% of the music we use (and a bunch that we don’t use) has made it onto my iPod. These good folks are licensing their music under a Creative Commons copyright, so there’s a whole lot you can do with it.
So, you should go to PodSafe Audio, check out a bunch of good music and support these people any way you can. They’re putting their livelihood out there. Be sure that whatever you do is included under their Creative Commons copyright.
And if nothing else, you can discover new, indie music and then have the following conversation with your friends (we’ll pretend you are Dave, for the sake of argument, and speaking to your friend Jeff):
Dave: Hey, did you hear the new song by Devin Anderson?
Jeff: Who?
Dave: What, you’ve never heard of Devin Anderson?!? (rolls eyes and walks away)

Yeah I just recently found out about podsafe. I also asked on my blog last week for other sites people used and found about 5 more. It’s great to know they’re out there for us.

Hey Clintus! Welcome– it’s great to see you here. Please send me that list– I’d love to see what people have come up with. I like opsound.org (although I prefer Podsafe), and I’ve used Freesound a couple of times for sound effects. Beyond that, though… I don’t know too many more.

All I know is that I didn’t know Joy Division. Plus, I don’t have anything I’m really pretentious about that I can retaliate with. “What, you’ve never heard of the comic Hicksville?” (rolls eyes and walks away) just doesn’t have the same impact, now does it?

Jeff, that joke about the D-train made me laugh out loud. Unless Joy Division=Megadeth, then no, I haven’t heard of them. Also, I liked the music in the work that is J&T, was quite good and worth checking out.

wait wait wait. I don’t know where you went to school, but Matthew and JKfC does NOT equal three. And if you were counting yourself in that equation, well, go to hell. Also, Matthew wasn’t vehement and was appropriately disdainful that he had heard of Joy Division, which negates his claim. I am now counting myself in the recount and throwing out your vote, which makes it 2 to 1. I AM NOW resigning as champion of the universe. Suck it, White!
